Scrap Therapy

A surprise for Muriel. Couldnt let this opportunity pass by without scrapping Muriel's (Lee-Anne,owner of Scrap Therapy -  Mum's) special night!

The backgrounds are MME, The Sweetest Thing Mischief Paper (reverse side) and Black cardstock
Using Rangers Adirondack Paint Dabbers in the colours of Pool (soldout) and Snow Cap... smudge across the middle.   All the edges are inked or distressed and inked with Ranger Black Soot



The little banner I made from Authentique Curiosity 'Determined' Paper (reverse side) by cutting out all the little people and then sewing them together onto the paper, and held down by MME's brads.

And the fabulous Authentique Curiosity Elements with words that were more than appropriate for this page!

All tied together with my favourite set of Webster Trim

Texture Paints and Mists..

If you love playing with wet media, or would like to have a go at playing with it... here's a little step tutorial to try which is created for Scrap Therapy

I love framing my LO's, one way or another - I'll manage it somehow on most of my LO's I'm not sure why, maybe it just gives it some sort of balance or finish? I really dont know - it just kinda evolves.
Here I've used WRMK's Cherry Cardstock as the outside frame (I always cut my middles out to use for something else and to take some weight out of the LO ) The background paper is Authentic Carefree Jovial Paper and is cut down a little on each side to show a thin frame of the red. And the little sewn down inside frame is Authentique Carefree Content Paper I've distressed all the edges




Step One
Find some scraps and cut into rough little rectangles and stick down on the paper




Step Two
Apply texture paste (this is fabulous stuff!!) with a spatula (so fun to play with!)






Step Three
Time to use those wonderful Ranger Dabbers!!! I've used Adirondack Snow Cap to rub over the texture paste (once it had dried) and then once the Dabber paint had dried, I misted with Perfect Pearls Kiwi. Its really hard to capture the gorgeous glossimer/pearlised coverage it gives, but look through the photos here and I may have captured it once or twice. It gives a lovely sepia/nature tinge to the area.




Step Four
For the smaller inside frame, I've cut a 25cm square and then created the frame by cutting the inside of the square out by leaving the frame about 1cm wide. I cut it roughly because I knew I would distress it, but if you dont want distressing, you might want to be a little more precise in your measurements. Out with the sewing machine with black thread and using zigzag, sew down the frame. If you dont want to sew - use one of these Tim Holtz Die Picks and make zigzag holes and join the dots with a black marker




Step Five
Rough up the distressed edges so the red coloured reverse side of the sewn frame can be seen It should look like this below:




Step Six
Time to add the photo and embellishments. Here I've used three Prima Poppy Flowers and leaves, Prima Resin Mushrooms, Apricot lace trim from Webster Fabric Ribbons set and cut out various sizes of butterflies from Authentique Carefree Relaxed Paper (this is fabulous paper because the amount of butterflies are endless - and a cheap alternative!) The Alpha and little words are Authentique Alpha Elements




Aha! here you can kind of see that lovely pearlised misting!    Its much more lovelier in real life



WW1 August Challenge

I'm really enjoying the WW1 challenges!

This time the criteria was  White with maps and travel embellishments.

(and cant really vie for the Scrap Therapy prize - but I just love the challenge -big smile)

Here's my interpretation:

My eldest daughter Meaghan hot-air ballooning over Turkey

Had a bit of fun with this...

The maps and the hot-air balloons have been cut from fabric which have been stuck down and stitched on the white cardstock.  I've picked up the little flags from the fabric and used bigger ones as well.  The little 'one way' sign gives the direction of 'up' for the travel along with little clouds. And use of gesso for some texture

Artastic August Challenge

As soon as the art work for Artastic challenge was up,

 I felt inspired straight away to get out the paints and stamps and love the dark diamond theme and some of that colour too!

Trying to create looking through a window with moths bumping against it to see Paige in her late night ballet class - just relaxing at the end.

Here are some of the products used to create the background.  Gesso, black texture paste (in the tube), Mango Making Memories paint, my favourite 'Purple Onion Stamps' in the diamonds and all the butterflies, and PanPastel - which is fabulous to stamp with especially on a partially wet background - I'm impatient when it comes to drying times! (rolling eyes)

sticking some little fabric triangle pieces at the bottom of each diamond gives the 'window' a little more depth

Cant submit for the main prize cos I'm on the DT for Scrap Therapy... but loved doing the challenge!

Authentique Loyal Collection 'Honest' gingham paper used in this LO is so suited to the outdoorsy or nature photos to scrap with add that with Bi-fold Foundation Brown paper to frame the LO and Blissful 'Prosperity' measuring tape paper and it becomes a fabulous combination .

WW1 July Challenge

It's the first time I've played along with the WW1 challenge blog and loved the criteria!

And the first time for a long time, I've had a minute just to 'scrap' for me.

We've been so flat out here, between moving studios and getting our house ready to sell (what a marathon that was!)  and it sold in 5 days!  Now just a little piece before the storm! (the move!)

Here's what I created...

I was inspired by the paint brushes- the doing of art, so used a photo of the privately owned art room where I spend every Wednesday morning for the past decade or so.

It's the most inspiring place - I love just being there among the most wonderful friends.  We chatter, discuss, laugh, banter, be in awe, and have fabulous morning teas (very big smile) made by our art teacher.  Who wouldnt want to be there!!!

Scrap Therapy July Room Challenge

This month's inspiration at SCRAP THERAPY for the July Room Challenge is this Master Bedroom

Your challenge is to be inspired by the inspiration picture and scrap it! You can be inspired by anything in or about the picture
Show your scrapping interpretation, creativy and relevance to the picture.
Be inspired by the colour and/or design; use specific elements or shapes if it takes your fancy, or even use it as a sketch for example!



Here's my interpretation using the gorgeous Authentique brand!

Pretty much I've kept to the colours....
I've used Authentic Foundations bi-fold paper ( grey background and the yellow torn strips under the photo)I've stamped over the torn paper with this fabulous Chicken wire stamp - Bird Brains.


I've created a 'line' of flowers to represent the flowers on the wall in the bedroom....
One of the most inexpensive what to 'do' flowers is to cut them out of pattern paper! I've used Authentic Blissful 'Happiness' Paper for this

The numbered flat paper trim down vertically on the left side of the LO is cut from 12x12 full of numbered kind of trim's such as ruler lengths you can cut off etc - you can find it here

Fancy Pants bauble Trim - the brown has sold out... but here's the blue one (and see where I've cut off some of the balls to use as embellies - thats fun...will do more of that!!!)
