Summer of Colour 5: Week 1

 

 

Ruckus Outside:

 

This is the first time I've joined in with:

Summer of Colour

 

 

 

 

And the colours are wonderful...

1 Blue + 1 Blue + 1 Green

 

So with a little bit of grey thrown in,

here's the shades I've used:

 

 

Sometimes I wonder how I get to the end of a project, because I never start with a plan...

Maybe because I've never really been taught formally only encouraged what comes naturally

And the point is to enjoy  the process, and accept the result....

So in my upside down way,

I painted three little cats first:

 

Yep, with two floating in the air....hmmmn...

I know.....(rolling eyes)

 

 

Then this thought struck..... (even though I only own one black cat...)

Who's favourite spot was to sit on his window seat under his blanket

In goes some colour....

 

 

Floating no longer.

They look intently at what's going on outside the window, with the third cat

about ready to join them...

Counterfeit Kit Challenges and Our Beautiful World

 

 

 

I'm on a roll with the girls quote books...

It will be nice to one day have them finished and hand them over to them.

I thought I might become a little hemmed in by the blacks, whites and mustard colourings from my Counterfeit Kit (you can see it here), and to be truthful, its so far been quite the opposite and am totally loving the colours.

It leaves the thought that perhaps having such a simplistic palette to choose from also makes it easier.

Maybe this is what I need in future?  Keep the colours simple?

Anyway....

 

Here's the latest challenge at Counterfeit Kit Challenges - use patterned die cuts...

Time to get out my bigshot and I really don't use this enough!

The patterned die cuts need also to be layered - eek..I do struggle with pattern paper

(but I'm getting better with it) so this is a really good challenge for me.

 

I decided to go with a pine tree- doubled with black cardstock on top and stripes underneath

I tried to put the stripes by themselves (trying to be bold and brave), but it got the better of me - too much!!! too much!!

So an extra black cardstock tree laid over the top only to reveal a little of the stripe underneath worked much better and I'm really happy with the result!

Then the little birds.... 'this I can do!!'  Pattern paper worked well!

All with a little stitching...

(have to apologise for the darkness of photos - ugly winter weather here!)

 

Hannah's book...

 

 

The quote was printed out from my computer using ACME Label Maker which we used in our previous month's challenge at 'Let's Get Arty'  (you can find the instructions there)

 

 

Over the grey tinted gesso, I've outlined with mustard and black watercolour pencil

 

and some green watercolour to add shadowing to the diecuts

Just like I mentioned earlier...

its been horribly wintery here at the moment...

dark, grey/black skies, drizzling to driving rain,

wind and very very cold....

 

and what better way to  warm up is

SOUP!

 

Just what we fancied, our family heirloom soup tureen full of hot creamy tomato soup

Paige's German Altered Vintage Book of Quotes

6th June 2015


And recently I managed to get my hands on another little vintage German book (similar to the one I've been using for Hannah's antique quote book.)

 

 

  It was the perfect excuse to get it started!

 

No quote, but there will be plenty inside - filled with encouragement and comfort for Paige when she feels she needs some clarity :)   Just need to fill in now!

 

 

The 'For Paige'  is made with a chisel ended glue pen, and gold leaf.

Write the word and then gently press the gold leaf on the glue

 

Rub very carefully off with my finger..

 

 

 

Then paint over with a thin covering of Mat Modge Podge

and dress up with a couple of little blue birds which act as arrows 

pointing focus to Paige's name :) 

 

The little birds are edged with Lumiere metallic acrylic paint 'Brass' which

is very much a 'gold' not brassy at all.  The background is light stamped with

a suggestion of script writing.

YAY, used my handmade embellishments (shown from the previous post)

 

for Counterfeit Kit Challenge of 'actually' using the handmade embellishments!!

 

 

Here's a little antique German/English book I'm getting ready
 (this time for Paige who is studying German at university)

I want it full of quotes suited just for Paige and interestingly enough, the quotes I choose for her have turned out to be so very different to the ones I've chosen for Hannah.

(just a little observation that has dawned on me during this process)

A light grey tinted gesso for the background....

And my favourite - a black watercolour pencil for shading and definition,

plus a fine-liner for framing.

Hadn't thought to put a 'book' into her hands yet.....

and felt something was missing.

There... that's better!

 

 

 

I like it's on the book paper too, it's like she has lost herself in the words of her book...

completely oblivious to the time ticking away...

Paint Party Friday, Counterfeit Kit Challenges

 

 

Weeell, this is the first time I've played along with

Paint Party Friday
(week 15, year 5)

How great to have somewhere to show artwork - not that mine is anything complicated,

but all the same - its an extension of scrapbooking or perhaps more like scrapbooking became the extension of art :)  All the same, thought I'd show this:

Black textured paper with white watercolour pencil...

Just a quick little sketch and add water :)

It almost feels like a figure on stage and the shadow of the lights on the black curtain behind it...

I totally loved the layered embellishment shown on the blog here,

So thought I'd get some made out of my kit too with some circle and heart punches

So simple with a little bit of stitching :)

 

Quite quick and easy!  Just need to use them now!

Counterfeit Kit Challenge - June

 

 Now that the mojo has been recovered from its gallop off to goodness knows where,

it's time to get a kit ready for Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog.

Love to shop my own stash (and to be reminded just was is hidden away!!)

This month the focus is on recent Basic Grey Collections - 8 of them!

The one the just screamed 'pick me!!!'  was 'Barista'

So in love with the black, greys, yellows and mustards with a touch of brown/bone toning.

Its kinda perfect of our end of Autumn into Winter time here.

So here's the Basic Grey Kit:

 

   



Loved it at first sight... I know there's a lot of yellows, and I love it!

I might add in a couple of other colours as they present themselves, but I'm really happy to use this as the base line:  So here's my match up - 

yes to the colour - but also the patterning.

I find it easier when there aren't too many colours involved when picking a kit :)

Like I said, little other things can be added in here and there
