Sunday Sketches

This freezing Monday morning our state woke to a Winter Wonderland with many schools and highways closed, and as I sat down at my computer and looked out the window -

softly, snowflakes drifted past.

It was the inspiration what to quickly sketch up this morning (we were away for the weekend) so I could get another page done in Hannah's book and upload it to

SUNDAY SKETCHES

before it closes in a couple of hours and I have to get ready for work...

Alexandra also spoke in her post about believing in yourself and be your own kind of beautiful...

so true of the snowflake....

I'm not sure that its the best snowflake drawing ever, never drawn one before - and I might keep practicing. BUT, that silly white Derwent Graphik line painter kept leaking over the page - yes you can see the splotches... it says to depress the ball a couple of times to keep the paint flowing and no matter how lightly pressed to keep the thing sketching - OUT it pours in big blobs about 1cm round !!! Anyway, I could put it down to looking 'frosty' with a squint! Nevermind......

All in all, its still gives it's message on this very freezing day,

oooh and the sun has just come out!

This weeks theme at

OUR BEAUTIFUL WORLD

'Stitch/es'

My very talented mum, can do anything with her hands,

and before my children were born, she made them beautiful woollen embroidered blankets and even though they are 18 yrs plus - her labour of love is beautiful....

And there may be a few loose stitches now, loved and worn over time....

Some stitches are made with silk ribbon, some are wound knots over and over...

And on another very loved blanket... this cute little teddy bear (this one is over 20yrs old)

Let's Get Arty

Challenge #66

What you can do with a kraft coloured paper bag?

It can be coloured, reshaped, painted, cut up, repurposed….

or whatever else you’d like to think up.

Time to get arty!

Have you got something in mind to create?

You can use any genre....

Layouts, Project Life, Cards, Off the Page, Art, Home Decor, Home Crafts to name a few...

This is one for my Travel Album....

Cut open a paper bag and stuck it to an unwanted 12x12 piece of cardstock plus put some trim on it. At this stage I didn't know which way up it was going to be

Added some Viva Inka Gold in Lava Red and Silver

Sketched in a little Chinese boy to give a feeling of ghostly history, what went before we (the tourist) ever got there......

And you can clearly see the paper bag features, it gives a vintage feel. The chinese writing paper - is loose leaf antique pages with handwritten lettering and characters on rice paper, discoloured with age. It adds to the 'history' of the monuments we visited.

Paint Party Friday Week 21

Just want to say - I'm sooooo delighted that my little 'Cobweb' page was picked (by random) this week at Paint Party Friday - thanks so much Kristen and Eva for your lovely words too... it has made my day! Also want to say, thanks to each of you who visit and leave comments in the past about this little quote book, as it has kept my confidence up in feeling like I can finish this! It has really become a joy to have precious moments to sit, ponder, experiment, draw, paint, correct whats going wrong and rehash to right it!!!(to the best of my ability of course!) A journey with each page - you know what I mean!! (big grin)

These little pages works in layers and so enjoyable to do...

Sketch the tree trunks in pencil Black outliner, and chestnut Twink H20

Painted with water well brush The negative space cut out

The behind page painted
Hunters Grey, Chestnut, Kiwi, Olive Vine Then the shadows of trunks added

Framing, and tree trunks sparingly glued down to background page

Definitely would love to do some more of this type of thing.... even cut through a third page and so on to add more definition.... a challenge in the best possible way.

And it also adds hopefully another facet of interest to this little book
