Let's Get Shabby Challenge #56

 

Its a fabulous challenge (#56) for

 

LET'S GET SHABBY!

 

as its one of my favourite products to use......

 

TRANSPARENCIES!

 

And I love enclosing sequins and sparkle in plastic pockets....

so for this challenge, I thought another page for my little 'Snow Album' (from our trip to Cradle Mountain with Julie and Asher when they visited last year) was long overdue....

 

My girls (by the iced-over lake in the background)....

its the first time I'd ever seen this lake in this state.

 

 

I wanted a patterned paper border on one side, so cut this one away...

 

Then added to the side of my plastic pocket...

So here are the pretty bits.... the pinwheel sequins, little blue sequins and diecut little flakes made by my bigshot - all dropped into the sleeve.....but.........

Something bothers me..... its the congregation of the pretty bits BEHIND the photo where they cant be seen.......so......

Solution!..... move the pretties to the edges and sew the photo (with its fibre behind) down!



 

 



Here's the sneak peek at the reverse... its almost completed...just add another photo when the time comes!  And there is no problem with disappearing pretty bits and it also keeps them fairly evenly spaced out without them falling in a heap together :)



 

 

Adding some snowball trim down the side....

 

And a love heart as we LOVE this place - its a special one we like to visit often!

 

 

 

All done and in its album!

Amiche di Scrap Challenge #5 Project Life....

 

 

I love this site because it really gets me to create some PL pages which is sadly lagging behind the times, so any excuse to get another page done for either of my 2014 album or travel album...

 

The criteria is to use wood veneers...

I've got them, but haven't been using them much until now....

 

 

Little wood veneer flowers with some enamel dots as centres.

And a little bird too.... painted white

Jennifer Grace's Blog Event.....

 

 

Two more challenges completed...

 

first is the

 

'Resist Challenge'

 

A long time ago - I bought one of those small resist bottles with the long needle point to freehand fine resist lines......and weeeeeeell, I think I managed a couple of applications before that clogged up no matter how many times I was so  quick using it and got that needle point back into the syringe part became useless!

A lot of money for little gain, so stuck it away on the shelf in a huff and forgot about it.

Then came along Jennifer Grace's 'Resist Me' challenge - and I got to thinking....

hmmmn....maybe if I took the whole lid off, and used a fine-ish paint brush - it could redeem itself...

and sure enough... it did and I'm so happy with the result!  I'll use it again!

(It's been refreshed and recycled lol!)  Another page done for our travel album :)

 

 

So, yes... off with the lid and painted a few frames....

At this stage, I had NO idea what was going to happen next, no photos and no plans.... 

Add a couple of little leaf stamps... now these are really OLD 'Daisy Bucket' stamps that have only ever been used a couple of times.... another thing 'refreshed'.   Hmmmn, think these are going to be used more often too!  Maybe they have come back round in fashion!



 



 Brushed over with white paint, script stamped... and a spray of colour....

Black fine-liner to give definition to the leaves...and  with some of the resist rubbed off , along with some of the frames..... it started to come together....



 

What fun.... decided to use it for the travel album.... added pics and alphas!



 

 

Love the result... will be doing more of this!

It was reversed...

Jennifer Grace's Blog Event (continued)

I've had another couple of goes with inspiration and challenges at Jennifer Grace's blog event....

 

'Refresh your Craft and Soul'

 

This time, I really took to this set of criteria...

 

  Make a waterfall / river / sea with mixed-media layers
Create a monotone project
Stitch some wavy lines

 

Loved the idea of creating some sort of sea theme... with drippy mixed media and YAY...creating another page  for Hannah's book!

I've kind of kept it monotone with blue/greens./turquoise and its hard to stitch a little book with frail pages, so stamping wavy stitch lines works for me!

I'm really hoping this quote will resonate with Hannah that when things get tough, its about how we learn the skills and strength to handle difficult situations no matter what they are that matter



Love these products...

Izink...I think I have just about every colour! 

the embossed heavy vellum was K&Co  (remember them?)

It was the first sort of 'real' embossed vellum out in the 'old days'... I'm sure I've had this longer than a decade!!!!    Diving into the ole scrap box towards the bottom...there it was!  AND I LOVE it!

Sometimes I'm REALLY glad I'm not a 'purger'!!  (weeeell, one of the rare times! LOL)

Colour Challenge

I used the extra criteria too...



Use a refreshing teal & orange colour combination

Add an extra detail to an embellishment (like the flag on the castle)

Have at least 4 different alpha sets in one title

 

 

I've used one of Jennifer Grace's Etsy  suns.... dyed orange :)

Aren't they cute!  Perfect for the page ...

 Some of my products... including my handmade tree....



 

 

Cut out a trunk and top part

 

 

Popped some 'orange' into the tree too for a bit of contrast...

 

 

And covered with a torn off bit of vellum..



 

 

Very busy here at the moment... its all I can do to get some scrapping very late at night...

and pushing to even get them into a post...

Bring on the next school holidays!!!!

Refresh Your Craft and Soul Blog Event....

 

 

 

Happy LONG weekend for those here in Australia

Its been great to be able to have Hannah home for an extra day, the weather here has be pretty good for June

  and even better . ... some extra time to scrap!

 

So I've been playing (and being inspired) by Jennifer Grace's blog event....

 

'Refresh your Craft and Soul'

 

It reminds me of the ole 'cybercrop' days...

remember them??  I used to LOVE them!

This theme to refresh our craft and souls is great too!

 

It was ironic because in my last post, I said, 'I don't think I could create without criteria now'

weeeeell, here's an answer - Jennifer Grace as come up with many inspiring sets of criteria...

just what I need to keep thoughts fresh/refreshed and creating!

 

First off was an inspirational Tag -

 

Use a pocket card as the base for a tag

Combine two happy phrases to brighten someone’s day

Finish off with a twine bow

 

I made mine for Hannah's little German vintage quote book that been in the making for too long... and I try to add in an extra page whenever I can.....(need reminding to do this!!!) Once finished, Hannah will hopefully use this to give her day a little lift... or when she is feeling down or homesick.

 

 

I loved that the criteria had two happy quotes... and for Hannah setting out on her new life these are positive reinforcements.....

There's a pocket card for the background with a touch of white paint around the edges, covered by one of Heidi Swapp's frames - it really was a great idea and quick easy way to get another page done for this book!

 

Definitely the opposite page needed some attention.

 I had some of those huge diecut  '&'s which never knew what to do with - so worked out all round to give them a home shadowing each other.  Managed to paint the background to match the background of the pocket card on the other side. YAY!  It all came together - and it was relatively easy!

 

 

 

Challenge: To Be Inspired

 

Mount two sheets of square patterned paper at the back of your project

Choose two sentiments instead of one

Use your favourite techniques to keep things simple

 

Keeping to my thoughts of Hannah (probably because she is sitting on the other side of my table studying) this LO just happened.... Its of her first few days in her new room which I painted out, then furnished and filled with her things from home.  Refreshing what she needs, and for me to know she will be happy.....

I mounted the two sheets of patterned paper - the blue woodgrain on top of the yellow spot.

Both favourite old paper scraps now used!  The sentiments are 'Hello' and 'Awesome Day' both cuts from pocket cards.  Hannah does look like she's popping through the circle frame with a 'Hello' and it was an 'Awesome Day' because her new room was finished!  She was so happy!

 

My favourite techniques would be stamping and creating texture on backgrounds....
and add a good watercolour pencil for a touch of colour...

 

 

So they were added in as well.

 

 

So much more to do.....

so off to create!

Creative Scrappers, Whimsical Musings and Counterfeit Challenges

 

 

Catching up on the last of May's challenges before starting on the June ones.

I love doing the amount of challenges I can get through each month because it gets my photos scrapped.... I love the thought provoking way each set of criteria sets the wheels in motion to get a page together.  Some challenges have prizes  or a mention and that's a bonus if  one gets lucky enough, and some don't have anything - but boy the criteria is a lot of fun.  

 I've gotten into a habit... I tend to now need criteria!   I'm not sure if someone said to me  'Sit and scrap a page'.  What would I do??   I'd sit there a while!  LOL, then - I'd search for some sort of criteria!  Have you created this habit for yourself?

Creative Scrappers Birthday Sketch

This was a funny story to scrap.... Paige lined up with a crowd to get a photo at Kings Cross Station... and one photographer was just going on a break and the other had just taken over - as Paige did one of her jumps, the leaving photographer caught a glimpse and quick as a flash was back getting the camera back to finish the shot!  (it was a little funny!) Luckily I had my camera in my hand and to a much amused Paige - I took photos of the event!  There were definitely plans for Paige's photo!

'Use Paint'

 

So out came the stencils and white paint... I LOVE this stencil!

A slight brush with Pan Pastels gave a little colour to some of the circles...

'Use a lot of one embellishment'

 

Weeeeeeeeeeeeell, I do tend to have a lot of pinwheel sequins - especially in white...

AND this beautiful photo of Paige in a tutu really afforded the use of them...being kinda tutu round and variegated.  The painted background was the white wash left over on the stencil from the above  LO, so with my brayer and not to waste any paint - on it went to black paper.

A bit more minimalist here.
