Tonic Inspired Project - Creative Jumpstart 2014

I've been trying to create every little chance I get - and mostly its been sooooo late at night as our Summer days are filled with many commitments and activities - all good of course!
Slowly our holidays are coming to an end and next week schools go back, and the week after, I'll be back at work.  The right royal round-about begins again for another year.

Mixed Media... mostly using craft knife, mask, paint, drips, stamps...

inspired and motivated by.....

New Tonic Web Logo

  one of the sponsors for

and amongst my stash, I have this fabulous
Tonic  Retractable Craft Knife... (for Tim Holtz)

Found butterfly paper and set about cutting out a heap of them....

Layered the butterflies and adhered, inked roller to make a path on a map

Masking and drips with paint, drew some definition with a lead pencil too

The title is stamped...
by a wash onto plastic and swiping the letter through it

Lots of fussy cutting...love it!

 Happy Scrapping!

Pan Pastels....A Bit of Mixed Media

Another page for Hannah's quote book...

She is off to study away next week - so excited for her, all she has ever wanted to be is a Librarian and she has a place! So now we are getting ready for her to move.  I know there will be times when she will be homesick or that the amount of work will be overwhelming, so I've worked on this little German vintage book and put in quotes that will help her take a breath....

Just need a mask, spatulas and texture paste....

PanPastel Colours:
Red Iron Oxide, Permanent Green, Raw Umber
The pigment grabs onto the texture paint fabulously...
(Do need to spray a fixative over the pages)
Add a little washi tape and leaves

And alpha for the quote...

managed to get this created because of.....
Creative Jumpstart 14
CJS2014Lable
has been so inspiring and motivating to get into some fabulous products and techniques...  out came the
http://panpastel.com/
(I only have a few but love what I have!) and managed to get another mixed media page finished!

 Just the push I needed!
(very big smile!)

What I'm Working On......

At the moment, this is just playing, I've sat down and had a good go at it - hmmmn.... more practicing than anything....

In other words ...these will be cast aside.... because its just about using the eye to get perspective right on a paper, use of charcoals and pastels, shading and different styles - trying out some styles of the masters.... just practice practice....and playing...

A bit of degas-style in pastels

Creative Jumpstart 2014... Water Colour Pencils....

Just love working with water colour pencils... they can add dimension to projects, in both colour, definition and shadow work....

An essential part of colouring....there's nothing quite like a 'wash'!

Derwent is one of the sponsors for Creative Jumpstart 2014
 Derwent

First, a bit of the background...
Putting on a bit more gesso on the love heart for some definition of  the base colour...

There are two papers here, the bottom 12x12 background and the smaller 'postcard' top layer. Both have been folded along the lines and with a black water colour pencil drew on some colour and touched with water - to give it that aged look...

scribbling on some colour with red and crimson...

More black to start  casting shadow work....

touching with water....

Next the mannequins.....
cut out...

Then add some crimson,  green and black to them..

Add a script stamp, here and there...

The background is ready for the little photo and title...

 Close- up

Dressed the mannequins with misted gauze

Happy Birthday Hannah! (and a bit of a catch-up!)

Hannah turned 19 today!

We took her on a surprise trip.... (with my friend and daughter)
She had no idea where she was going.....

Everyone knows how much Hannah loves books and all her life she has wanted to be a librarian..

Soooooo, we drove out to the country to a little quirky café which also has a book exchange...
where unwanted books are taken in, and exchanged for books that are wanted... no money... just because!

Weeeell, how did I get her to bring me some books she didn't want... I asked her for ones I could pull apart for scrapbooking and sure enough... out they came and plonked on the table next to me... and as soon as she left... the books were placed in a bag and into the boot of my car.

She was sooooo happy when we got there, saw what it was all about and set about choosing her books... she loved it.

Out in the courtyard after our wonderful meal with its quirky pallet walls and vertical gardens, sitting in a cool breeze... perfect.

Hannah only arrived back from Melbourne yesterday after a taking the trip to visit her friend who lives there now going to uni....
And the heat was extremely high...  in the low to mid 40's Celsius...
The pair on an air-conditioned train!
They did a lot of swimming, went to the theatre, the cinema, shopping...

Hannah had a great time leading into her birthday.
